Connecting Compliance Across the University
Compliance Matrix Framework
Stanford’s institutional compliance program utilizes a compliance matrix framework, where compliance is largely implemented through a decentralized network of institutional offices and officers documented in Stanford’s Compliance Matrix. This network is coordinated and supported by a central compliance function (University Compliance Office) that reports to the University Chief Risk Officer.
Stanford’s Compliance Matrix maps compliance areas, as well as specific laws and regulations, to responsible offices and personnel within the University. By regularly updating the Compliance Matrix, the University Compliance Office can more effectively provide oversight, support and coordination to the decentralized compliance functions spanning the enterprise.
The Compliance Matrix is a dynamic, continuously-evolving tool that requires regular review and updating to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness. Please reach out to the University Compliance Office with questions about, or updates to, the information contained within the Compliance Matrix.
